Private betaRace engineer · AI

Your race engineer speaks your language.

It reads your sim's telemetry and talks to you over the radio while you drive: tyres, fuel, pace and when to box. When nothing's happening, it stays quiet.

Private beta: we open in batches, in list order. When you join you see your place and your link: every driver you invite moves you up 5 places.

What it does

A whole pit crew in one app: you hear it on the radio and see it on the panels.

01 · Spotter and flags

It knows who's alongside

“Left”, “Clear”, “Yellow ahead”: one- and two-word calls, instant and offline.

Spotter in Assetto Corsa, ACC and iRacing. Flags depending on what each sim publishes.

02 · Tyres, fuel and strategy

It tells you when to box

Temperatures, pressures and fuel per lap, with the fuel maths to the flag. It calls your pit window.

Every sim publishes different data: if one doesn't give a value, the engineer won't make it up.

Tyre panel: wear, temperature, pressure and disc for all four wheels.
Strategy panel: laps in the stint and fuel remaining.
03 · Telemetry and analysis

Where the tenths go

Your lap against your best clean lap: speed, pedals, gears and steering. In practice the coach tells you what to fix; in the race it goes quiet.

Analysis panel: speed, throttle, brake, gear, RPM and steering for the current lap.
04 · Live map

The track, learnt by driving

The layout learns itself while you drive, with your car and your rivals on top. This is Barcelona.

Rivals on the map where the sim publishes their positions.

SO/03Memory

Before, during and after

It doesn't switch on at the start and off at the end: it remembers you, listens to you and keeps everything.

Before · heading out

It remembers you

Back at a track, it greets you with what went wrong last time, and your record to beat in that car.

Your memory is yours and lives on your PC: wipe it from Settings whenever you like.

Talk to it and it listens

“Talk less”, “stop calling my pace”, “watch turn 5”: it changes the app on the fly, hands on the wheel. And a friend can follow you live from a browser.

Safety settings ask for confirmation. Going live needs an account: your friend sees your panels, the radio and the camera, but can't talk to you.

Every session, kept

When you finish it tells you how it went. Your races stay in your account, with records and streaks, and a recorded session plays back with its telemetry and its radio.

Auto-recording is switched on in Settings; recordings never leave your PC.

SO/06FAQ

FAQ

What people ask before joining.

01 · How much does it cost?
We're in private beta right now and joining the waitlist is free. The plans and prices are on the Pricing page; sales open later and we'll email you when your seat is ready.
02 · Which sims work?
Gran Turismo 7, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Assetto Corsa EVO, Le Mans Ultimate, RaceRoom and rFactor 2. Automobilista 2 and F1 26 are on the way.
03 · What exactly does the engineer do in my game?
It depends on what your game publishes, and we say so plainly: callouts, coach corrections, the questions it answers and what that game does not allow, sim by sim. The list comes from the app’s own code and updates with it: smoothoperator.tech/que-hace.
04 · Does it work with Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation?
Yes. The app runs on your Windows PC and receives the console's telemetry over your home network. Nothing to install on the PlayStation.
05 · Which languages does it speak?
Spanish, English and Catalan. The whole app, not just the voice, and each language with its own engineer voice.
06 · Do I need an internet connection?
For the first voice-pack download, yes. After that, the engineer's calls play from clips stored on your computer, offline too. Talking to the AI does need a connection.
07 · Will it cost me FPS?
It doesn't hook into the game: it's a separate app that reads the telemetry the sim itself publishes, like an external dashboard would. You can keep it on a second screen.
08 · What do I need to install it?
A Windows PC. The app tells you about every update and installs it for you.
09 · Can I use my phone as a wheel?
Yes, on Android: install the MobilWheel app from the QR code SmoothOperator shows you and the PC sees it as a controller. The first time it installs the virtual controller (vJoy or ViGEmBus) and Windows asks for permission. It's in the app's full mode.
10 · What is OpenClaw?
A separate assistant that, if you have it installed, plugs into SmoothOperator: ask the engineer for things that aren't about racing —play music, send a message, check the weather or open a program— and it hands them to OpenClaw. Switch it on in Settings → Advanced, in full mode.
11 · Is there a phone app?
It's on the way, for iOS and Android: your engineer's radio in your pocket. With Gran Turismo 7 it connects straight to the PlayStation; with a PC sim, the computer passes it the telemetry. Join the list and we'll let you know when it's out.
